Currently, MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator will not accelerate file downloads, such as music files, or streaming video or audio media.

MidwayNet Express and Express x2 accelerates your Internet access through proprietary text and image compression, content caching, and other network optimizations.

If you have a slow Internet connection (such as a dial-up or wireless connection) with a bandwidth of less than 300Kbps, you will experience a significant degree of acceleration using MidwayNet Express and Express x2.

• What types of content does MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator speed up?

MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator significantly speeds up web page access. To achieve this speed up, proprietary lossless compression is applied to text, html, xml, javascript and style sheets. Proprietary image compression is applied to GIF images, JPEG images, PNG images (with MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator version 5.0 and later) and Flash content.

MidwayNet Express and Express x2 does NOT accelerate email traffic (POP3, IMAP and SMTP) and FTP. It also does NOT speed up file downloads and streaming audio/video.

2. Supported Browser Versions:

• Can I use MidwayNetExpress and Express x2 Web Accelerator with browsers other than Internet Explorer?

Yes. MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator works with any Web browser that allows you to specify an HTTP proxy. Here's a list of supported Web browsers:

• Internet Explorer 5.0 and later
• Firefox 0.9 and later
• Mozilla 1.4 and later
• Netscape 6.0 and later (version 8.0 only with SlipStream Web Accelerator version 4.0.127 and later)
• Opera 8.0 and later (only with SlipStream Web Accelerator version 4.0 and later)

Make sure that you install the Firefox, Mozilla, or Netscape extension when you install MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator. Once MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator is running, start the browser and browse as you normally would.  No user intervention is required since MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator operates in the background.

If you encounter any problems, please make sure that the the HTTP proxy host is set to "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" and that the port number is set to the same local listening port as the one in your MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator settings. Its default value is 5400. Please refer to the "Troubleshooting" section for detailed information.

No. MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator does not reduce the amount of time it takes to send and receive email.

HTTPS acceleration is not supported in our MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator. Secure Web sites will continue to work by bypassing the acceleration component.

• What system requirements are necessary to use MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator?

Minimum system requirements for a PC:

• Pentium 200MHz (or equivalent)
• 64MB of RAM
• At least 11MB of hard-drive space.

Minimum system requirements for a Macintosh:

• PowerPC G3 processor at 333MHz
• 128MB of RAM
• 6MB of hard drive space.

• Why is MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator disabled immediately after it launches?

Please make sure that you have configured MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator properly; this includes the correct username, password, server name, and server port number. It is also important to check if you have a valid internet connection.

This issue might also be caused by the High Speed Auto-Detection feature. MidwayNet Express and Express x2 Web Accelerator might be disabled once an active high speed connection, such as DSL or cable modem, is detected.
